Happy Birthday U.S. Missions and Royal Rangers

by William Leach, Superintendent

The year 2012 marks a historic milestone for U.S. Missions: 75 years serving as the domestic missions agency of the Assemblies of God in the United States.

Zollie Smith, Executive Director of Assemblies of God U.S. Missions makes these comments: “It was 1937, and the United States was recovering from the worst economic disaster since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was working to bring hope to a nation ravaged by despair, as millions struggled daily to maintain their families in the dark shadows of unemployment.

Born in a time of struggle, U.S. Missions was commissioned to fulfill a unique role of providing hope to the hopeless and light to a dark world. From that time until now, the mandate of the Great Commission and the good news of the gospel have been the motivation of our team . . . that none perish.

Today, our times reflect many of the same challenges seen three-quarters of a century ago. And once again we find ourselves in a privileged position of taking the hope of Jesus Christ to those who have lost their way.

These individuals are gifted, trained, specialized and full of compassion. They are the heart of U.S. Missions.

8 Traits of a Healthy Home (& Church)

by Jeff Hlavin, Secretary-Treasurer

Many years ago, I heard Howard Hendricks give a list of “Eight Traits of a Healthy Home.” I not only adopted them as goals for my home, but also recognized them as pathways for reaching those goals. Later, I realized that these same characteristics are applicable to a Healthy Congregation.

1. Communication - A healthy family is a communicative one. It talks, it listens, it understands.

2. Conviction - It has a clear-cut set of values that it transmits to the next generation.

4. Trust - Parents not only teach responsibility to children, but they also prove themselves trustworthy to their children.
